SCJP general information

SCJP is Sun certification for java programmers. This certification generally tests the basic syntax and structure of the Java[tm] programming language. Detailed Objectives talks further about what you should expect in the exam.

About actual exam
This is multiple-choice exam. You will be presented with a question and multiple answer choices. You will also be told how many choices form the correct answer. Very few of the questions may be of type 'Fill in the blanks' or 'type the answer in box'.

Please note that Sun has announced that SCJP for Platform 1.4. This will be available from August 2002. The objectives of the new exam are slightly different.



Systematic Approach

• Please check out resources section for good java books and resources for preparation. Make sure to read SCJP short notes before taking the sample tests.
• Once you are sure you are done with enough theory, take as much java practice exams as possible. You will find good (slightly tougher ones!) practice exams at Witscale's test center.
• When you will start scoring consistently above 80% in practice exams, you are probably ready to take the final one.
• Sun conducts its certifications exams at Prometric testing centers.
• You need to purchase your Exam Voucher by calling your local Sun Educational Services office. Once you get the exam voucher, visit www.2test.com to find the nearest test center. Call the Prometric test center to schedule the exam. Visit Sun's certification site for more details.
• Please note that this exam is multiple choice with approximately 60 question in 120 minutes. It gives you on an average 2 minute per question. But you can skip difficult questions and come back to them later. Make sure to mark the questions you skipped so when the time permits, you can attempt them.
• You may also finish the exam prematurely. The results are displayed almost immediately.
• You will receive the paper certificate from sun within weeks.
