At the beginning of each chapter, you will find the SCJP Objective(s) that are being covered in that chapter. Therefore you can either- Follow the SCJP Objectives and read the respective chapters or Read the chapters in the order they are (and keep the track of objectives learned). In another words, chapters can be read independently from the other chapters.
Since learn-by-an-example method works with most types of readers, each chapter has lots of illustrations & code samples. As an old saying goes “A picture is worth a thousand words!” this book lives the principle- “A code sample is worth a thousand words!”. If you are a beginner, you probably need to read the chapters entirely. However if you already know the concepts, a quick browse through the code listings might as well do. Since taking sample tests is the key to SCJP success, I suggest you do that after finishing off with each chapter.
